Ceramics works plain cover page

Sculptures

Stoneware | Stoneware - Cover Page

These high fired ceramic works were conceptualized with the places which gold fragments of our earliest ancestors were discovered. These places such as Calatagan(Batangas), Tabon(Cave), Daet(Camarines Sur) became famous as excavation sites from which these fantastic archeological discoveries specifically the gold coverings that were meant to cover the eyes, nose and mouth including earings were unearthed. In the Tabon cave the most magnificent find was the manunungul jar, a very large earthen jar was discovered with a sculpture made out of terracotta depicting our earliest ancestors belief in the afterlife through their journey in a boat.

The ancient gold coverings were meant to protect the ancient Filipinos facial features such as the eyes, nose, mouth and adorn the ears (with gold earrings ) that were vital for the dead's journey to the afterlife. Aside from the gold artifacts, very rare ancient fragments of the earliest designs that were etched, engraved in terracotta were retrieved clearly showing that the earliest ancient Filipinos' creative streak and flair for what is aesthetically beautiful were revealed.
