This work depicts the renewed friendship offered by the Spaniards right after the devastating defeat and death of Magellan under the hands of Lapu-Lapu in the battle of Mactan in 1521. I was inspired to create this painting which is about the historic blood compact that reignited the friendship of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Sikatuna. Miguel Lopez de Legaspi accompanied by Father Andres de Urdaneta an Augustinian friar. So this historic rekindling of our friendship with the Spanish colonial power in Bohol. Ultimately the friendly ties that were sealed in that historic day were extinguished because of the oppressive practices that enslaved the Filipinos with the connivance of the friars which paved the way for the violent resistance of the Katipuneros that ultimately defeated the Spanish regime.
